Veneers

When you have any of a number of problems that cosmetically affect your teeth, getting porcelain veneers can hide those problems. Gaps in teeth, certain types of stains, cracks, chips, and some crooked teeth can all be solved by getting veneers. They require a process that will be easy for you, and it is pain-free. You are always kept comfortable for your appointments at North Florida Dentistry.

Porcelain Shells for Your Teeth

Veneers are porcelain shells that are very thin and placed over the front of your teeth to give each tooth a new look. If you have some cosmetic issues that have made you less than happy with your teeth, talk to Dr. Harrington about the possibility of getting veneers. For some cosmetic problems, there may be other solutions that might work better for you such as dental bonding or tooth whitening. The dentist can consult with you about your choices and determine whether you are a good candidate for getting this cosmetic treatment.

Getting Your Veneers

To get veneers, the dentist will first take off a very thin enamel layer from the front of the affected teeth. Then, images will be taken of the teeth, and the veneers will be made to match your teeth precisely. Then, after the veneers have been made, they will be bonded to the teeth. Dr. Harrington will be able to tell you whether you are a good candidate for this treatment after an oral exam for any infection, decay, or any gum disease.

If your mouth is not healthy enough for this procedure, it may be recommended to you to get certain restorative procedures before you get the veneers for the best health of your teeth and gums. You may need to have fillings or other treatments before you are ready to get veneers.

When you get dental veneers, they are made to look just like the rest of your tooth. No one will know that you have veneers unless you tell them about them.

Veneers are not permanent, but they can last as long as 10 years, or even longer, if you take good care of them. It’s important to brush and floss them every day as you would any other teeth in order to care for them. Get your regular dental exams every six months. Never use your teeth to open a lid or to cut through something other than food. It’s also helpful to avoid many of the dark liquids that can stain the teeth like tea and wine. These may stain your veneers.

You will be given directions by the dentist so that you know how to care for them well and so that you know what to avoid in order to keep them in good condition. If you are interested in veneers but have anxiety about dental procedures, talk to Dr. Harrington about ways that you can be kept relaxed throughout this procedure.
